Efficient gate operations

Building a new gate or installing an efficient docking guidance system at all the gates of the airport? Considerable gains can be made if all gates are used to their full capacity. The Docking Guidance Systems, Safedock®, and Gate Operating Systems, GOS, minimizes disturbances and interruptions while guiding each aircraft individually to the right gate, in the right position at the right time saving precious minutes from the schedule. Once the aircraft is in its correct position the loading and unloading process can be carried out quickly and safely. The overall performance of the airport ground operations is affected positively with gates utilized at their best.

Four ways to improve docking efficiency

  • A better knowledge of stand status
  • No waiting for marshallers
  • Efficient pre-positioning of the boarding bridge
  • Semi-automatic connection of PBB
A better knowledge of stand status

The system answers vital questions immediately: Is the gate occupied, free, ready or in maintenance? Did the marshaller report in time? Did ATC receive the message? Five days of operation is lost annually if the marshaller reports stand status with an average delay of 2 minutes. Plans are made into reality and ad hoc operations are minimized. The system also generates detailed statistics, which is invaluable for improvements of the docking efficiency.

No waiting for marshallers

How often have you been waiting in an aircraft in front of the gate? Is the marshaller where he is supposed to be? Accuracy of parking the aircraft is the key for quick connection of 400 Hz, PC-Air, PBB and fuel. Safedock parks the aircraft with an accuracy of 0.1 meter. Surveys have shown that turn around time is improved with 1-1.5 minutes with the use of Safedock, which equals 3.8 days of operation per year!

Bridge pre-positioning

Besides avoiding accidents, an astonishing amount of time can be saved at each docking if the PBB is pre-positioned in the most efficient place. With 30 seconds of saved time, 1.3 days of operation will be won annually at a gate with eight dockings per day.

Semi-automatic connection of the PBB

Besides avoiding accidents, there is also a lot of time to be saved from driving the PBB automatically to within 1 meter from the aircraft door. With 30 seconds of saved time another 1.3 days of operation would be won annually.

Savings in efficiency

Installing Safedock in 30 gates will increase the capacity as much as building a whole new gate!

30 Safedocks cost € 1,350,000

Building a new gate costs € 1 - 4,000,000

Return on investment (ROI)

Compare the investment of 30 new Safedock-systems minus the savings generated yearly with the cost for delays, aircraft and gate repairs, liabilities, blocked gates, lost profit and the cost for a new gate.

30 Safedocks cost € 1,350,000
One Safedock generates at least € 21,000 in yearly savings.
(30 Safedocks saves > € 21,000 x 30 = € 630,000)

Insurande/liability, delays, blocked gates, aircraft and gate repairs, lost profit.
New gate costs € 1 - 4,000,000
